The storyteller is Nat (short for Nathan) and he’s not your run-of-the-mill pal. Nat is everything I can’t be—a gypsy, an aborigine, a white dude, a girl, a hermaphrodite, or whatever else he likes. But to tell this story, he chooses to be a seahorse from the land down below. He tells us about the Rainbow Serpent, a kind of mother nature, who entrusts him with her Dreamtime, thereby opening up a sea of awareness to him. For starters, Nat is not one of those who believe the world was created in six days because he knows for a fact that it took millions of man-years for the Rainbow Serpent to fine-tune her creation to what we know as the world today.
